Setting Backshaft Speed
IMPORTANT: Machines equipped with a variable-belt drive feeder
house are designed for use with a corn head or row-crop head. Using
variable-belt drive at excessive speeds when combine is equipped with
a cutting platform can cause vibration and excessive wear to cutterbar
parts. Minimum backshaft tachometer speed (at no load
and at high engine idle) must be kept from 490 through 530 rpm.
When connecting combine to cutting platform after using other
front-end equipment that utilizes variable-belt drive at higher speeds,
do the following:
-
Engage separator and header for field operation.
-
Press and hold reel lower switch until backshaft speed is at
minimum speed.
-
If backshaft minimum rpm speed is not reached, adjust feeder
house belt (See Combine's Operator's Manual for adjustment procedures).
