Inspect Fan Belt Tensioner—9.0 L Engine

    A - Cap Screw

    B - Left-Hand Engine Side Shield

    C - Cap Screw

    D - Fan Shield

    Raise hood.



  2. Remove cap screws (A) and left-hand engine side shield (B).

  3. Remove cap screws (C) and fan shield (D).

    A - Tensioner

    B - Belt

    Install 13 mm (1/2 in.) breaker bar in tensioner (A).



  5. Rotate tensioner clockwise to release belt tension.

  6. Remove belt (B) from pulleys and carefully release tensioner.

    Marks Aligned

    A - Mark on Tensioner

    B - Mark on Bracket

    Place mark on tensioner arm at (B).



  8. Measure 21 mm (13/16 in.) from mark (A) and put a mark (B) on mounting bracket.

  9. Rotate tension arm with torque wrench until marks (A and B) align. If torque wrench measurement is not within specification, replace tensioner mechanism. (See your John Deere dealer.)

  10. Install belt and side shield.

  11. Lower hood.
