Replace Fuel Filters—500 Hours (9.0 L Engine)

High-pressure fluid remaining in fuel lines can cause serious injury. Only technicians familiar with this type of system should perform repairs. Before disconnecting fuel lines, sensors, or any other components between the high-pressure fuel pump and nozzles on engines with High Pressure Common Rail (HPCR) fuel system, wait a minimum of 15 minutes after engine is stopped.

    A - Drain Valve

    B - Primary Fuel Filter

    Thoroughly clean exterior of filter elements and filter mounting areas.



  2. CAUTION: Fuel in filters may be under pressure. Open valve (C) on bottom of water separator bowl to relieve pressure prior to removing filter.

    NOTE: Use a suitable container to catch fuel when draining or removing fuel filters.

    NOTE: Fuel/water separator is part of fuel filter assembly.

    Open drain valve (A) to remove water and contaminates from primary fuel filter (B) catch contents in a suitable container

  3. IMPORTANT:

    A - Primary Fuel Filter

    B - Secondary Fuel Filter

    Always replace both filters at the same time.

    NOTE: Additional fuel will drain from filter housings.

    Rotate primary fuel filter counterclockwise to remove it from housing.



  4. Rotate secondary fuel filter counterclockwise to remove it from housing.

  5. IMPORTANT: DO NOT pre-fill either fuel filter with fuel.

    Lube filter seals with diesel fuel and install filters.

  6. Bleed fuel system. (See Bleeding Fuel System in this section.)
