Tow The Sprayer

If the sprayer becomes disabled and unable to move, it may be towed using the following emergency tow procedure. Be certain to read and follow all ”CAUTION” and “IMPORTANT” statements and procedural steps to avoid injury to you or others, and possible machine damage.

CAUTION:

TS258
TS258-UN-23AUG88

Avoid serious injury or death to you and others. Block all wheels, prior to removing and installing planetary hub primary sun gears. Removing all planetary hub primary sun gears will allow machine to freewheel.

IMPORTANT: The machine should only be towed for a short distance of 0.5 km (1640 ft.) and at very slow speeds of 0—2 km/h (0—1 mph).

IMPORTANT: The machine will need to be steered from the cab when being towed. When the engine is off, steering will require more effort and more rotations of the steering wheel than normal. The service brakes will not function unless auxiliary pump is operating or secondary steering pump is operating. So it is preferable to have the engine running when being towed. If the engine is inoperable, towing is limited to 15.2 m (50 ft.).

With Engine Running

  1. Block wheels to prevent unexpected machine movement.

  2. Disconnect electrical connectors at all four hydrostatic drive motors.

  3. Start engine.

  4. IMPORTANT: Multifunction control handle must be held out of park position. If multifunction control handle is returned to park position, parking brakes will automatically engage.

Move multifunction control handle out of park position. Machine may now be towed.

With Engine Not Running

  1. Block wheels to prevent unexpected machine movement.

  2. NOTE: Approximate capacities of planetary hubs are:

    • R4030—1.2 L (1.3 qt.)
    • R4038—1.7 L (1.8 qt.)
    • R4045—2.5 L (2.6 qt.)

Drain oil from planetary hub into a suitable container. (See Change Planetary Hub Oil—500 Hours in Lubrication and Maintenance section of this manual.)
