CAUTION: Prevent asphyxiation. Engine exhaust fumes can cause
sickness or death to you or others.
If you must operate
engine in a building, be positive there is adequate ventilation. Use
an exhaust pipe extension to remove the exhaust fumes or open doors
and windows to bring enough outside air into the area.
Avoid the possibility of personnel injury or death:
-
Be sure that everyone is clear of the machine
-
Start engine only from the operator seat
-
Do not start engine by shorting across starter
terminals. Machine may start in gear if normal circuitry is bypassed
-
Engine starting with the multifunction control
handle out of the “Park” position indicates a malfunction
of the starting circuit. Repairs should be made immediately by your
John Deere Dealer
NOTE: On-board electronics may require slightly longer cranking
times during engine start-up.

A - Multi-Function Lever
Make sure:
-
Multi-function lever (A) is in Park position
-
Sound horn
-
Turn ignition key to Accessory/Run position.
-
IMPORTANT: Do not operate starter more than 30 seconds at a
time or starter may be damaged. If engine does not start, wait at
least 2 minutes before trying again. If engine does not start in four
attempts, refer to Troubleshooting section.
To assure
adequate lubrication after engine starts, idle engine at approximately
900 rpm with no load for 1—2 minutes. Extend this period when
operating at temperatures below freezing.
When starting the machine during cold temperatures a starting
aid may be necessary. (See Cold Weather Starting Procedure in this
section.)

A - Coolant Temperature
Turn ignition key clockwise to Start position, engaging the
starter. Release key when engine starts. If key is released before
engine starts, wait until starter and engine stop turning before trying
again.
-
When the engine has started, stop and caution indicator lights
will go off when ignition key is released.
-
View the engine coolant temperature (A) on the primary display
unit.
IMPORTANT: Protect turbocharger during start-up by not accelerating
above 1000 rpm until normal engine idle speed is established (900
rpm).
NOTE: Should engine stall while operating under load, restart
it immediately to prevent overheating and possible turbocharger damage.
