A - Master Spray ON/OFF Switch

Boom Charge: A user selectable feature that will pressurize the boom to a user preset value or a system calculated pressure for the first 3 seconds after a Master Spray ON event. This pressurization compresses air that may be in the boom to ensure that the nozzles are spraying at their desired rate as soon as possible. Three selectable modes are possible: Off, Manual or Auto.

Off Mode - Boom Charge feature is not enabled. The system will return to the same rate as at the time of the last Master Spray OFF.

Manual Mode - allows the system to charge the boom at a manually specified pressure set by the operator (equal to Manual Target Pressure Programmed for Manual mode on the rate selection knob) for 3 seconds after the Master Spray ON/OFF switch is pressed ON. After 3 seconds, the automatic rate control system will take over. This may cause over or under application if manual target pressure is not equal to spray speed after headland turns.

Auto Mode - allows the system to charge the boom at an automatically predetermined pressure and flow calculated by the controller based on the previous speed, boom section width and flow rate (gpm) output at Master Spray OFF. It also allows the system to operate on pressure based application rate control versus flow based rate below 15 gallons per minute (gpm). This allows the spray rate control system to reach the target application rate faster when smaller flow rate nozzles are used. It is also best to operate in this mode when using Swath Control Pro.

In SprayStar setup, place boom charge in AUTO when solution flow rate is under 100 Lpm (26 gpm).

Spray rate controller will attain the spray off pressure when master spray is off. Spray off pressure is the pressure the pump will maintain when not spraying. Spray off pressure is primarily intended to increase agitation when not spraying. It should not be used as a means for boom charge compensation.

Verify both Spray Off Pressure and Minimum Spray Pressure are set to complement operating pressure.

NOTE: Minimum Spray Pressure should never be in the operating range of the desired application rate pressure you are spraying.

To Determine Solution Flow Rate:

  • When spraying, select gallon per minute item from one of the drop-down menus on the Sprayer Main page

OR

  • Determine size of nozzles, the flow rate (gpm) at operating pressure and multiply by the total number of nozzles on the boom.

Example: If ULAC 020 nozzles at 40 psi are installed and there are 96 on the boom: 0.2 gpm x 96 = 19.2 gpm (solution flow rate). Operator would need to turn boom charge on AUTO.

A - Setup Softkey

B - Spray Setup Tab

C - Drop-Down Box

To place boom charge in AUTO or OFF:

  1. Select the Setup softkey (A) to view the setup menu.

  2. Select the Spray Setup tab (B).

  3. Select drop-down box (C) next to Boom Charge and select between AUTO, MANUAL or OFF.

NOTE: ACD values (Solution System Response) are calculated on the first spray pass made through field after each time the engine has been started. To insure valid ACD numbers, make the first spray pass at a constant speed, with all boom sections turned on and the correct nozzle size for the target rate selected. Changing speed, air in the boom section plumbing, or shutting off boom sections during the first spray pass can result in invalid ACD values and incorrect boom charge that cause application rate problems. If the machine fails to make a stable rate in a timely fashion after the first pass, the ACD values may be invalid. Reset the values by shutting-off the machine, restarting and make another spray pass. ACD values need to be reset each time nozzle size is changed.
