Spray system can contain hazardous material which can cause serious injury or death to you or others. Wear protective clothing, eyewear, and gloves. Clean filter in an area where people, animals, vegetation, and water supply etc. cannot be contaminated.

NOTE: Clean boom supply line strainers if the following conditions exist:

  • Pump fails to obtain maximum flow rate
  • Pump fails to maintain dead head pressure
  • Application rates fluctuate
  • Difference between solution pump pressure and spray pressure greater than expected for a given application

  1. CAUTION: Do not close the flowmeter shutoff valve (E) with the solution pump running. This can trap pressure in the system that can be hazardous when opening strainers for cleaning.

Do not drain solution onto the ground. Drain into a container. Drain solution in an area where people, animals, vegetation, and water supply, etc., cannot be contaminated.

NOTE: Strainer drain valve and hose can be installed in place of plugs to allow for easier draining and directing of fluid. Available through John Deere Spray Parts and Accessories.

Close valves to prevent excessive solution loss:

    1. Machines equipped with manual boom isolation valve (A), close boom isolation valve and flowmeter shutoff valve (E).

    2. Machines equipped with boom air purge (electric boom isolation valve) close flowmeter shutoff valve.

    3. Machines equipped with manual load system close solution tank sump valve (H).

    4. Machines equipped with solution command system verify push on fill button (I) is OFF.

  2. NOTE: Machines equipped with electric valve require more solution be drained through strainer. Ensure that container has sufficient capacity.

Remove plugs (B) to allow strainer to drain into suitable container.

  3. NOTE: 50 mesh strainer ONLY: Open strainer drain valve (F) and drain solution into suitable container through drain hose (G).

Unscrew rings (C) and remove strainer housings (D).

  4. Remove screen and wash with clean water.

  5. Install screens and housings.

  6. Install plugs.

NOTE: 50 mesh strainer ONLY: Close strainer drain valve.

  7. Open boom isolation valve and flowmeter shutoff valve and solution tank sump valve.
