All hubs are filled with 85W140 Gear Lube from the factory. If oil needs to be added before the 50-hour initial oil change, use 85W140

Use oil viscosity based on the expected air temperature range during the period between oil changes.

The following oil is preferred for all R4030 hubs:

• John Deere GL5 85W140 Gear Lube

The following oil is preferred for all R4038 and R4045 hubs:

• John Deere GL5 80-140 Synthetic Gear Lube

• R4030—1.2 L (1.3 qt.)
• R4038—1.7 L (1.8 qt.)
• R4045—2.5 L (2.6 qt.)
