Change Planetary Hub Oil—After First 50 Hours

  1. NOTE:

    C - Fill Plug

    D - Fill Level Plug

    E - Fill Level

    R4038 planetary hub shown all others are similar.

    Drive machine at 40 km/h (25 mph) or above for 15-20 minutes.



  2. Park machine on flat level surface.

  3. Allow hubs to cool to a point that the oil can be handled safely (approximately 30 min.).

  4. Rotate hub until casting arrow is pointed to two o'clock position (A).

  5. NOTE: Ensure that all oil is drained from the hub. This can be up to one hour when warm and should be approximately the hub capacity oil volumes listed in the Planetary Hub Oil in the Fuels, Lubricants, and Coolants section.

    Remove drain plug (B) and drain oil into suitable container.

  6. Reinstall drain plug. Tighten to specification.

  7. Remove fill plug (C).

  8. Remove fill level plug (D).

  9. Fill hub to oil level (E). (See Planetary Hub Oil in Fuels, Lubricants, and Coolants section for refill capacity and recommended oil.)

  10. Install fill level plug. Tighten to specification.

  11. Install fill plug. Tighten to specification.

  12. Drive machine at 40 km/h (25 mph) or above for 15-20 minutes.

  13. Let hub cool for one hour and recheck oil level.

  14. Add more oil as required.
