-
Clean machine thoroughly, inside and out. (See Clean Vehicle
Of Hazardous Chemicals, Including Pesticides in this section.)
-
Clean and flush solution system. (See Clean Solution System
in this section.)
-
Open pipe plug on the solution pump to remove any chemicals.
Replace plug.
-
Remove, clean and install fill strainer, solution strainers
and flowmeter.
-
Remove and clean nozzle tips and screens. Store tips and screens
off the machine, in a dry place.
-
Add approximately 76—114 L (20—30 gal) of appropriate
mixture of SprayMaster Winterizer Fluid. Following manufacturers directions,
mix SprayMaster Winterizer Fluid at the correct ratio to protect the
solution system down to the lowest expected temperature.
-
Start machine and operate spray system until winterizer fluid
mixture comes out of spray nozzles. Be sure to circulate mixture through
the entire solution system, including optional devices (eductor and
fence row nozzles). Operate pressure valve to send solution through
rinse balls.
-
Remove and clean nozzle tips and screens. Store tips and screens
off the machine, in a dry place.
-
Drain the following tanks:

N98449-UN-07MAY12
A - Rinse Tank Fill Valve
-
Rinse tank: Drain it through the rinse tank fill valve (A).
-
Clean water tank.
-
Remove monitor (A) and store in a warm, dry place.

N98338-UN-04MAY12
A - Monitor
-
Replace hydrostatic filters (A) and hydraulic filter (B).

N98478-UN-08MAY12
A - Hydrostatic Filters
B - Hydraulic Filter
-
Drain planetary hubs (A). (See Change Planetary Hubs Oil in
the Service—500 Hours Section.)

N98534-UN-09MAY12
A - Planetary Hub
-
Fill the planetary hub until the correct oil level.
-
Lubricate all grease fittings. Apply grease to exposed area
of hydraulic cylinder rods and chrome suspension rods.
-
Paint as necessary to prevent rust.
-
Treat exposed surfaces with coating TY25396 to prevent corrosion
and rust.
-
Lift each corner of the machine and support with the JDG11094
sprayer support stand or equivalent to take off weight tires. Do not
deflate tires.
NOTE: See Use Sprayer Support Stand and Lift Bracket in Wheels,
Tires, and Tread Section.
-
Wash engine using a safe solvent.
CAUTION: DO NOT use gasoline for washing. Gasoline is highly
flammable and can ignite if exposed to sparks or open flame. It can
cause fire and serious injury or death to you or others.
-
Clean primary engine air filter element. (See Clean Primary
Engine Air Filter Element in Service-As Required Section.)
-
Change the engine oil. (See Change Engine Oil in Service—Every
Year Section.)
-
Change the engine coolant. (See Change the Engine Coolant in
Service—Every 2 Years or 2000 Hours.)
-
Fill cooling system with antifreeze. (See recommendations in
Fuels, Lubricants, and Coolant Section.)
NOTE: For warm-weather climates, if the antifreeze has not and
will not be added in engine, be sure to remove plug to drain engine
oil cooler. Add clean soft water with John Deere Summer Engine Coolant
Conditioner, or equivalent, in place of the antifreeze.
-
Operate engine at low idle for a few minutes.
-
Charge batteries completely. Specific gravity equals 1.260 V.
-
Up to 90 days of storage—Disconnect negative (-) lead
to batteries.
-
More than 90 days of storage—Remove and clean batteries.
Store them in a cool, dry place and keep them fully charged.
-
Fill the fuel tank to prevent condensation.
IMPORTANT: When fuel is stored in the fuel tank or farms storage
tank for extended periods, or if there is a slow turn over of fuel,
add a fuel conditioner to stabilize the fuel and prevent water condensation.
Contact your John Deere dealer for recommendations.
For
prolonged sprayer storage, the best practice is to drain biodiesel
and fill with regular petroleum diesel fuel. Otherwise use biodiesel
stabilizer (anti-oxidant) additives or fully formulated biodiesel
conditioners. Contact your John Deere dealer for recommendations.
-
Seal the following openings with tape and/or plastic bags.
-
Exhaust pipe
-
Air intake cleaner
-
Engine oil dipstick
-
Engine oil filler neck
-
Engine vent tube
-
Every 60 to 90 days start engine and turn on the air conditioning.
Run engine at low idle for several minutes for compressor seal lubrication.
Outside temperature should be above 5°C (40°F) for proper
air conditioning operation.
-
Leave note in the cab detailing what was done for winter protection.
So, the next person to use the machine will know what kind of preparation
is needed for field operation.
