Change Engine Oil

IMPORTANT: If John Deere Plus-50™ II oil is used, the oil change interval can be extended from 250 to 500 hours. The 500 hours extended oil change interval is only allowed if all the following conditions are met:

  • Use a diesel fuel with sulfur content less than 5000 mg/kg (5000 ppm)
  • Use John Deere Plus-50™ II oil
  • Use an approved John Deere oil filter

NOTE: A better draining of oil and debris is obtained when the oil is warm.

  1. Park the machine on a level ground.

  2. Start up the engine and let it run for 5 min.

  3. Shut off the engine.

  4. Remove the ignition key from the key switch.

  5. Remove the under frame shields, if equipped.

  6. Place a suitable container under the crankcase drain plug (A).

  7. Remove the crankcase drain plug (A).

  8. Drain the engine oil.

  9. Install the crankcase drain plug (A).

  10. Replace the engine oil filter. (See Replace Engine Oil Filter in this section.)

  11. Add the specified oil via filler neck (C).

    NOTE: Check the engine oil capacity in Specifications section.

    NOTE: Use John Deere oil as specified in Fuels, Lubricants, and Coolant Section.

  12. Start up the engine and check the machine for oil leaks.

  13. Shut off the engine.

  14. Wait 5 min and check the engine oil level with the oil dipstick (B). (See Check Engine Oil Level in Prestarting Checks section.)
