Servicing the Alternator Belt
CAUTION: Rotating parts can catch fingers, loose clothing, or
long hair. Wait for engine and all moving parts to stop before leaving
operator’s station to adjust or service machine.
Checking Belt Tension

Park machine safely. (See Parking Safely in the Safety Section.)
Allow engine to cool.

Raise hood.

A - Alternator Belt
B - Adjusting Bolt
C - Lower Mounting Bolt
Apply moderate thumb pressure to belt (A) halfway between
the pulleys. Belt should deflect inward approximately 9 mm (3/8 in.).

Adjust belt tension if deflection is more or less than specified.
Adjusting Belt Tension

Loosen adjusting bolt (B).
-
Loosen lower mounting bolt (C).
-
Apply outward pressure to alternator housing until tension is
correct.

Tighten adjusting bolt (B) and lower mounting bolt (C).
-
Check belt tension.
-
Lower hood.
Replacing Belt
NOTE: Replace alternator belt if excessive wear, damage or stretching
is detected.

Park machine safely. (See Parking Safely in the Safety Section.)
Allow engine to cool.

Raise hood.
-
Loosen adjusting bolt (B).
-
Loosen lower mounting bolt (C).
-
Apply inward pressure to alternator housing.
-
Remove belt from alternator sheave, fan sheave and crankshaft
sheave.

Route belt over fan and remove.
-
Install new belt over fan and onto sheaves.

Apply outward pressure to alternator housing until tension is
correct.

Tighten bolts (B) and (C).
-
Check belt tension. Adjust as necessary.
-
Connect black negative (-) cable to battery.
-
Lower hood.
