Checking and Cleaning Fuel Filter Sediment Bowl and Replacing Filter

Avoid injury! Fuel vapors are explosive and flammable:

  • Do not smoke while handling fuel.
  • Keep fuel away from flames or sparks.
  • Shut off engine before servicing.
  • Cool engine before servicing.
  • Work in a well-ventilated area.
  • Clean up spilled fuel immediately.


Checking Sediment Bowl

  1. Park machine safely. Allow engine to cool.

  2. Check fuel sediment bowl. If water and deposits are detected, remove bowl and replace fuel filter.

Fuel Filter

A - Fuel Shutoff Valve

B - Closed Position

C - Sediment Bowl

D - Fuel Filter

  1. Move the fuel shutoff valve (A) to the closed position (B).

  2. Position drain pan under fuel filter sediment bowl (C).

  3. Turn sediment bowl counterclockwise to remove.

  4. Remove and discard the fuel filter.

  5. Clean bowl.

  6. Install new filter to filter head.

  7. Install sediment bowl.

  8. If just replacing the sediment bowl filter go to step 13

    Lift the hood

  9. Remove right side panel.

  10. Position drain pan under fuel filter (A).

  11. Wipe dirt from around filter.

  12. Turn filter counterclockwise to remove.

  13. Install replacement filter by turning filter clockwise until gasket contacts filter base. Tighten additional 1/2 turn.

  14. Open fuel shutoff valve.

  15. Fuel system is self-bleeding.

    Turn key to the ON position for 10—15 seconds before attempting to start; electric pump purges air from sediment bowl and the filter.

  16. Start and run engine at idle to check for leaks.
