Installing Stabilizers and Stabilizer Cylinders

NOTE: On 4300-4700 tractors, stabilizers are mounted with backhoe attached to tractor. On 5105 and 5205 tractors, stabilizers are mounted with backhoe supported on blocks.

1. Remove cotter pin (A) from one end of cylinder pivot pin (B) on stabilizer leg (C).

2. Remove cap screw, washer, and spacer (D) from retainer pin (E) on stabilizer pivot pin (F). Remove stabilizer pivot pin from weldment.

3. Install stabilizer leg (G) into backhoe weldment with swing step (H) pointing toward tractor tire.

4. Lubricate and install pivot pin (I), and secure with retainer pin (J). Install spacer (K) between retainer pin and frame. Install cap screw and lock washer through retainer pin to frame.

5. Remove cotter pin (L) from cylinder pivot pin (M) on inside of backhoe weldment. Remove pivot pin. Remove packing wire holding rod end of cylinder to backhoe.

6. Move stabilizer cylinder to inside of backhoe weldment between bushings. Route hydraulic hoses above pivot pin. Lubricate and install pivot pin (M) and secure with cotter pin.

7. Lift stabilizer until pivot pin (B) can be installed through both stabilizer bushing and rod end of cylinder. Lubricate pivot pin and install. Secure pivot pin with cotter pin.

8. Repeat above steps for stabilizer on other side of backhoe.

9. Lubricate all grease fittings and pivot points before operating backhoe. (See Lubricating Boom and Stabilizers in Service chapter.)
