Attaching and Detaching Backhoe (5105, 5205 Tractors)

Attaching Backhoe

1. Start tractor and run engine at slow idle.

causym CAUTION: TO AVOID INJURY, DO NOT STAND BETWEEN TRACTOR AND BACKHOE WHEN ATTACHING OR DETACHING. BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL WHEN OPERATING CONTROLS FROM THE GROUND.

STAND CLEAR OF STABILIZER MOVEMENT

ENSURE SWING LOCK PIN IS INSTALLED.

TO AVOID PATH OF STABILIZERS, STAND BESIDE RIGHT REAR TIRE OF TRACTOR, FACE TRACTOR, AND PUT LEFT HAND ON CONTROL LEVERS.

2. Raise or lower stabilizers (A) as necessary to position subframe crossbar (C) in line with rear hanger hooks (D). (See Operating Machine chapter for information on backhoe operation.)

NOTE: Front hanger end of subframe must be below level of front hanger on tractor before tractor is positioned.

3. Back up tractor until subframe crossbar seats firmly into rear hanger.

4. Engage park brake.

5. Raise boom and stabilizers alternately, pivoting subframe (C) on rear hanger, until subframe front hanger holes are in line with front hanger (D) holes.

6. Stop engine.

7. Install tapered pins (A) in front hanger. Install hitch pins (B).

8. Remove swing lock pin (A) and boom lock pin (B). Store pins on operator platform.

9. Start engine and run at slow idle.

10. From the operator's seat, bleed the system by doing the following:

Raise and lower stabilizers.
Raise and lower boom.
Extend and retract dipperstick.
Curl and dump bucket.
Swing boom from side to side.

11. Install swing lock pin and boom lock pin.

12. Stop engine.

IMPORTANT: Check tractor hydraulic fluid level. Add fluid if necessary.

Detaching Backhoe

1. Park tractor safely on level ground. Engage park brake. Run engine at slow idle.

2. Lower stabilizers (A) to the ground.

3. Install swing lock pin (D).

4. Remove boom lock pin (E), if boom lock pin is installed.

5. Extend dipperstick (C) and lower boom (B). Position bucket on ground so that straight edge of bucket is parallel to ground.

6. Stop engine.

7. Remove hitch pins and tapered pins from front hanger.

8. Start engine. Run engine at slow idle.

9. Lower boom and stabilizers alternately, pivoting subframe on rear hanger, to lower front hanger end of subframe to the ground.

10. Lower boom or stabilizers slightly to free rear hanger of subframe weight.

11. Disengage park brake. Drive tractor straight ahead until subframe crossbar is clear of rear hanger hooks.

12. Lower backhoe until main frame is resting on ground.

13. Stop engine. Put tractor in PARK.
