Charge and Connect Battery

CAUTION: The battery produces a flammable and explosive gas. The battery may explode:

  • Do not smoke or have open flame near battery.
  • Wear eye protection and gloves.
  • Never check battery charge by placing a metal object across the posts. Use a voltmeter or hydrometer.
  • Do not jump start or charge a frozen battery. Warm battery to 16°C (60°F).

IMPORTANT: Follow instructions carefully. Battery and battery cables must be installed correctly.

  1. Tip seats forward.

  2. Raise and secure cargo box.

  3. Remove engine access panel.

  4. Remove battery from vehicle.

  5. Remove protective caps from battery terminals.

  6. Charge battery fully. Full charge is 12.6 volts.

    Connect red positive cable (A) to positive (+) battery terminal. Tighten the connection.


  8. Apply general purpose grease or silicone spray to terminal to help prevent corrosion. Slide red cover over positive (+) terminal.

  9. Connect black negative cable (B) to negative (-) battery terminal. Tighten the connection.

  10. Apply general purpose grease or silicone spray to terminal to help prevent corrosion.

  11. Install engine access panel.

  12. Lower the cargo box.

  13. Tip seats back.
