Changing Engine Oil and Filter

IMPORTANT: Change the oil more often if the vehicle is used in extreme conditions:

  • Extremely dusty conditions.
  • Frequent slow or low-speed operation.
  • Frequent short trips.

  1. Run engine to warm the oil.

  2. Park the machine safely. (See Parking Safely in SAFETY.)

    Place drain pan under engine drain plug (A) and oil filter (B).



  4. Open access cover (C) between seats to gain access to oil fill cap.

  5. Remove oil fill cap (D) from filler opening.

  6. Remove drain plug (A) and drain oil into oil drain pan. Allow oil to drain completely. Place oil fill cap (D) back on filler opening.

  7. Remove and discard oil filter (B) on engine. Wipe off filter base on engine.

  8. Put a light coat of clean engine oil on gasket of new oil filter.

  9. Install new filter until rubber gasket contacts filter base. Tighten filter an additional one-half turn.

  10. Install drain plug and tighten to specifications.

  11. Remove oil fill cap (D) from filler opening.

  12. IMPORTANT: Do not overfill crankcase with oil. Oil capacities given are with engine and crankcase completely dry. Some oil will remain in engine after draining.

    Add recommended fluid no higher than upper mark on dipstick (E). Do not overfill.

  13. Install oil fill cap.

  14. Start and run engine at idle to check for leaks. Stop engine. Fix any leaks before operating.

  15. Check oil level, add oil if necessary.

  16. Lower the oil access cover between seats.
