Servicing Drive Belt


Inspecting Drive Belt

Rotating parts can catch fingers, loose clothing, or long hair. Wait for engine and all moving parts to stop before leaving operator’s station to adjust or service machine.

  1. Park the vehicle safely. (See Parking Safely in the SAFETY section.)

  2. Raise and secure cargo box.

  3. Drive belt can be inspected through enclosure exhaust port (A) with out removing clutch enclosure cover.

    Measure the top surface of the belt width at (B). Replace belt if dimension is less than 29 mm (1.1 in.).



  4. Check for debris inside enclosure exhaust port and clean if needed.


Removing Drive Belt

  1. Rotating parts can catch fingers, loose clothing, or long hair. Wait for engine and all moving parts to stop before leaving operator’s station to adjust or service machine.

    Park the vehicle safely. (See Parking Safely in the SAFETY section.)

  2. Raise and secure cargo box.

  3. The machine can fall or slip from an unsafe lifting device or supports.

    • Use a safe lifting device rated for the load to be lifted.
    • Lower machine onto jack stands or other stable supports and block wheels before servicing.

    Lift machine and secure so tires are off the ground and suspension hangs freely.

    Remove ring (A), loosen two clamps (B) and remove air intake hose (C).

    Remove left rear shock (D).

    Remove eleven bolts around (E) clutch enclosure cover (F). Remove clutch enclosure cover.

    Lift up on drive belt (G) to make slack.



  8. Start drive belt over edge of driven clutch (H) and turn clockwise until drive belt is removed.

    Spin idler sleeve bearing (I). Confirm bearing rotates smoothly. If not, contact your John Deere dealer for possible bearing replacement.




Replacing Drive Belt

Make sure arrows on drive belt face towards the front of machine.

    Loop belt (A) over drive clutch and around driven clutch, starting at bottom and slide belt into driven clutch while turning.

    Install clutch enclosure cover (B) and eleven bolts (C).



  3. Install left rear shock.

    Install air intake hose (D), retaining ring (E), tighten two clamps (F).
