Checking and Adjusting Starter (Generator) Belt

CAUTION: Rotating parts can catch fingers, loose clothing, or
long hair. Wait for engine and all moving parts to stop before leaving
operator’s station to adjust or service machine.
Park the vehicle safely. (See Parking Safely in the SAFETY section.)

Allow vehicle to cool completely.

Raise and secure cargo box.

Inspect starter (generator) belt (A) for wear or damage.
Replace if needed. (See Replacing Starter (Generator) Belt next in
this section.)

Check belt tension by applying thumb force to starter (generator)
belt halfway between belt pulleys. Belt inward deflection should
meet specification.

Adjust belt deflection if necessary:

Remove nuts (B) and starter (generator) cover (C) from drive
belt area.

Loosen nuts on pivot bolts (D).

Loosen nut on adjusting bolt (E).

Move starter (generator) (F) upward to tighten belt or downward
to loosen belt. Hold starter (generator) in position, and tighten
nuts on pivot bolts (D) to specification.

Tighten nut on adjusting bolt (E) to specification.

Check belt tension, and repeat procedure as necessary.

Install starter (generator) cover and nuts until snug. (To avoid
damage to cover, do not over-tighten nuts.)

Lower cargo box.
