Adjusting and Lubricating Drive Chain

  1. Avoid injury! Do not operate snow removal attachment without chain shield.

    Park machine safely. (See Parking Safely in the SAFETY section.)

  2. Disconnect snowblower from machine.

    Remove detent pin (A) with guard chain (B) from upstop assembly (C).

    Remove four carriage bolts (A), nuts (B), chain side guard (C), and upstop assembly (D).

    Remove cap screws (A) and PTO guard (B).



  6. Remove cap screw (C) and chain guard (D).

    Loosen four locknuts (A) and move chain shield (B) left to provide tension on chain. Deflection should be 4.7—10 mm (3/16—3/8 in.).



  8. Adjust chain, if necessary:

    • Slide chain shield right or left until deflection measurement is right.
    • Hold chain shield in place and tighten locknuts.

  9. Rotate auger several turns and verify that chain has at least 4.7 mm (3/16 in.) deflection at all times.

  10. Lubricate chain with John Deere TY 6240 Chain Lube Spray or equivalent.

  11. Wipe off excess oil.

  12. Check condition of chain and sprockets. Replace if necessary.

    Install chain guard (A) and PTO guard (B) with three cap screws (C).

    Install upstop assembly (A) and side chain guard (B) with four carriage bolts (C) and nuts (D).

    Install detent pin (A) with guard chain (B) into upstop assembly (C).
