Replacing Mower Belts (42 Mulch Mower)

Drive Belt Inspection and Replacement

1. Park machine safely. (See Parking Safely in SAFETY section.)

2. Allow engine and muffler to cool completely.

3. Lower mower deck.

4. CAUTION: Component is spring-assisted and under tension. Injury can occur if spring-assisted component is released suddenly.

   To remove drive belt:

   1. Grasp tension rod (A) securely. Disengage end of rod from gage wheel bracket (B).

   2. Rotate rod counterclockwise (C) and hold.

      Remove drive belt (D) from engine sheave (E) and mower deck.

   4. Rotate tension rod clockwise and engage end of rod in gage wheel bracket (B).

5. Clean belt and inspect for wear or damage; replace as necessary.

6. To install drive belt:

   1. Grasp tension rod (A) securely. Disengage end of rod from gage wheel bracket (B).

   2. Rotate rod counterclockwise (C) and hold.

   3. Install drive belt (D) on mower deck and engine sheave (E).

   4. Rotate tension rod (A) clockwise and engage end of rod in gage wheel bracket (B).

Secondary belt inspection and replacement.

1. Park machine safely. (See Parking Safely in SAFETY section.)

2. Allow engine and muffler to cool completely.

3. Remove mower deck (See Removing Mower Deck (42 Mulch Mower) in this section.)

4. To remove secondary belt:

   • Remove one bolt (A) and slide belt shield (B) outward and off of two slotted holes (C) on top of mower deck.

   •

     Loosen hardware for two sheaves (D).

   ---

   • Remove spring locking pin (E) and tension rod (F) from tension handle bracket (G).
   • Rotate tension arm (H) slightly counterclockwise and remove belt from sheaves.

5. Clean top surface of mower deck and sheaves.

6. Clean belt and inspect for wear or damage; replace as necessary.

7. Install belt on mower deck as shown. Make sure belt is under the tension rod (F) and in the groove of each sheave. Rotate the tension arm (H) slight if necessary to position the belt on the last sheave.

8. Install tension rod (F) on the tension handle bracket (G) and secure with a spring locking pin (E).

9. Tighten sheave (D) hardware to specification.

10. Install belt shield (B), making sure shield is secured onto two slotted holes on top of mower deck. Secure with bolt (A).

11. Install mower deck.
