Replacing Mower Drive Belts

Replacing Primary Mower Drive Belt

1. Park machine safely. (See Parking Safely in SAFETY section).

2. Allow engine and muffler to cool completely.

3. Remove mower deck.

   Remove hardware and sheaves (A) and (B).

5. CAUTION: Components are installed under spring tension. Wear eye protection and use proper tools when installing and removing components with spring tension.

   Remove hardware (C) and idler arm (D), being careful to move arm carefully while disconnect spring (E) from idler arm.

6. Remove hardware and sheave (F) from idler arm.

7. Remove primary drive belt (G) from around all remaining sheaves.

8. Inspect belt for wear or damage; replace as necessary.

9. Clean top surface of mower deck and sheaves.

10. IMPORTANT: The belt will be damaged if installed wrong. Route the belt properly through belt guides. See belt routing label on mower deck.

    Install belt around sheave (F) and install sheave back onto idler arm (D). Install spring (E) and idler arm back onto deck with hardware (C).

11. Install belt around sheaves (A) and (B) and install on mower deck, as shown. Route belt around any remaining sheaves. Make sure belt is in the groove of each sheave, there is no twist in the belt.

12. Tighten sheave and idler arm hardware to specification.

13. Install mower deck.

Replacing Secondary Mower Drive Belt

1. Park machine safely. (See Parking Safely in SAFETY section).

2. Allow engine and muffler to cool completely.

3. Remove mower deck.

   Remove primary drive belt (A).

5. Remove three bolts (B) and left belt shield (C).

6. Remove secondary drive belt:

   • CAUTION: Component is spring-assisted and under tension. Injury can occur if spring-assisted component is released suddenly.

     Remove spring (D) from deck hook (E).

   ---

   • Loosen hardware for two sheaves (F).
   • Remove mower belt (G).

7. Inspect belt for wear or damage; replace as necessary.

8. Clean top surface of mower deck and sheaves.

9. IMPORTANT: The belt will be damaged if installed wrong. Route the belt properly through belt guides. See belt routing label on mower deck.

   Install belt on mower deck as shown. Make sure belt is in the groove of each sheave, there is no twist in the belt, and the belt is inside belt guides on sheaves.

10. Tighten sheave hardware to specification.

11. Install spring back onto deck hook.

12. Install belt shield on top of mower deck. Secure with three bolts.

13. Install mower deck.
