Installing Mower Deck (48HC)

1. Park machine safely. (See Parking Safely in the SAFETY section.)

2. Allow engine and muffler to cool completely.

3. CAUTION: Rotating blades are dangerous. Before adjusting or servicing mower:

   • Disconnect spark plug wire(s) or battery negative (-) cable to prevent engine from starting accidently.

   • Always wear gloves when handling mower blades or working near blades.

   Raise mower lift lever fully upward into transport lock position.

4. Slide mower deck under machine.

   Lower mower lift lever, and install pin and spring clip (A) onto each side of rear mower bracket.

6. NOTE: To ease installation of the side draft rod(s), the weight of the mower can be supported by placing a wooden block under the front lip of the mower.

   Install front draft rod (C) onto mower deck bracket (D) and onto draft bracket (B). Secure draft rod ends with locking clip (E). Repeat on opposite side.

   Install belt (F) onto engine sheave (G).

8. CAUTION: Component is spring-assisted and under tension. Injury can occur if spring-assisted component is released suddenly.

   Install 3/8 in. ratchet into square hole (H) in tension arm and rotate clockwise to release tension on belt, while installing mower belt onto center spindle sheave (I). Make sure that belt is properly seated on all sheaves

   Install engine sheave shield (J) with original hardware (K).

    Install right horizontal (L) and right vertical (M) deck shields with original hardware (N).

    Install left horizontal deck shield (O) with original hardware (P). Install left vertical deck shield (Q) with original hardware (R).

    Install center deck shield (S) and secure with original hardware (T).

13. Install foot plate.
