Changing Engine Oil and Filter
IMPORTANT: Avoid damage! Operating in extreme conditions requires
more frequent service intervals: • Engine components
become dirty or plugged when operating in extreme heat, dust, or other
severe conditions.
• Engine oil degrades if machine is operated constantly
at slow or low engine speeds, or for frequent short periods of time.
-
Run engine to warm oil.
-
Park machine safely on level surface. (See Parking Safely in
the SAFETY section.)
-
Lift hood.

Put drain pan under drain valve (A).
-
Remove drain cap (B) and drain oil into drain pan. Allow oil
to drain completely.
-
Remove dipstick (C).
-
Wipe dirt from around oil filter (D).
-
Place a drain pan or funnel under oil filter tray.
-
Remove old filter and wipe off filter tray.
-
Put a light coat of fresh, clean oil on the new filter gasket.
-
Install replacement oil filter by turning oil filter to the
right (clockwise) until the rubber gasket contacts filter base. Tighten
filter an additional one-half turn.
-
Install and tighten drain cap (B).
-
IMPORTANT: Avoid damage! Do not overfill. Some residual oil
remains in engine after draining. Overfilling causes smoking, hard
starting, fouling of spark plug, and oil saturation of air filter.
To avoid overfilling, add oil slowly and stop to check oil level
every few ounces. Add oil no higher than FULL mark on dipstick. Do
not overfill.
