Replacing Mower Drive Belt (48A, and 54A Mower)

Replacing Primary Belt

1. Park machine safely. (See Parking Safely in SAFETY section.)

2. Allow engine and muffler to cool completely.

3. Lower mower deck and remove machine and rear deck shield. (See Removing and Installing Shields in the SERVICE MOWER section).

4. CAUTION: Avoid Injury! Component is spring-assisted and under tension. Injury can occur if spring-assisted component is released suddenly.

   Using a 3/8 in. ratchet, rotate, and hold tension arm (A), rearward, while removing mower belt (B) from engine sheave (C).

5. Remove belt from mower deck.

6. Clean belt with a clean cloth.

7. Inspect belt for wear or damage; replace as necessary.

8. Using a 3/8 in. ratchet, rotate and hold tension arm, rearward, while installing mower belt onto engine sheave.

Replacing Secondary Belt

1. Park machine safely. (See Parking Safely in SAFETY section.)

2. Allow engine and muffler to cool completely.

3. Remove mower deck. (See Removing Mower (48A and 54A Mowers) in the SERVICE MOWER section.)

4. CAUTION: Avoid Injury! Components are installed under spring tension. Wear eye protection and use proper tools when installing and removing components with spring tension.

   Using a 3/8 in. ratchet, rotate, and hold tension arm (A), forward, while removing secondary belt (B) from mower deck sheaves (C).

5. Inspect belt for wear or damage; replace as necessary.

6. Clean top surface of mower deck and sheaves.

7. Install belt onto mower deck sheaves as shown. Make sure that belt is in the groove of each sheave. If necessary, rotate tension arm slightly to place belt onto the last sheave.

8. Install mower deck. (See Installing Mower (48A and 54A Mowers) in the SERVICE MOWER section.)
