Servicing Drive Belt


Inspecting Drive Belt

CAUTION: Rotating parts can catch fingers, loose clothing, or long hair. Wait for engine and all moving parts to stop before leaving operator’s station to adjust or service machine.

  1. Park the vehicle safely. (See Parking Safely in the SAFETY section.)

  2. Raise and secure cargo box.

    NOTE: Drive belt can be inspected through enclosure exhaust port (A) with out removing clutch enclosure cover.

  3. Measure the top surface of the belt width at (B). Dimension should be within specification.

  4. Check for debris inside enclosure exhaust port and clean if needed.


Removing Drive Belt

  1. Park the vehicle safely. (See Parking Safely in the SAFETY section.)

  2. Raise and secure cargo box.

  3. Remove ring (A), loosen two clamps (B) and remove air intake hose (C).

    NOTE: Note which holes two longer bolts are removed from.

  4. Remove ten bolts (D) and nuts and outer clutch enclosure cover (E).

  5. Lift up on drive belt (F) to make slack.

  6. Start drive belt (F) over edge of driven clutch (G) and turn clockwise until drive belt is removed.

  7. Spin idler sleeve bearing (H). Confirm bearing rotates smoothly. If not, contact your John Deere dealer for possible bearing replacement.


Replacing Drive Belt

NOTE: Make sure arrows on drive belt face towards the front of machine.

  1. Loop belt (A) over drive clutch and around driven clutch, starting at bottom and slide belt into driven clutch while turning.

  2. Install clutch enclosure cover (B) and ten bolts (C).

  3. Install air intake hose (D), tighten two clamps (E), and install ring (F).

  4. Lower the cargo box.
