Coulter Bearings

Keep the coulters sharp and properly lubricated at all times.

If there is any looseness in the bearing, clamp coulter blade in vise. Disassemble, clean, and repack with John Deere High Temperature/EP or an equivalent SAE grease. Tighten nut until there is drag on the bearing.

NOTE: Apply drag as specified. Do not back off nut after adjusting.

Specification

Coulter Bearings -Drag 0.13-0.32 N·m (10-25 lb-in.)

This drag assures positive sealing.

Be sure to replace the cotter pin in the slotted nut to lock nut in position.

These anti-friction bearings are packed with grease at the factory. Inspect the bearing and adjust if necessary every 100 hours. Before each tillage season or every 200 hours, whichever comes first, perform the following:

  • Disassemble bearing
  • Clean bearing
  • Repack bearing

NOTE: Check nuts on coulter cap screws periodically for tightness.
