Adding Coolant

causym CAUTION: Explosive release of fluids from pressurized cooling system can cause serious burns.

If radiator cap must be removed, do not remove when engine is hot. Shut engine off and wait until cap is cool enough to touch with bare hands. Slowly loosen cap to first stop to relieve pressure before removing completely.

Never add coolant when engine is overheated. Wait for it to cool.

DO NOT raise basket to remove radiator cap and check radiator. The basket is heavy and can cause serious injury or death to you or others if it falls. Check and remove radiator cap from INSIDE basket only.

Under certain conditions, coolant conditioner can cause serious injury or death to you or others. Never inhale or ingest conditioner and avoid contact with skin or eyes. When adding coolant conditioner, observe all precautions listed on container.

1. Check coolant level in overflow tank (A) when engine is cold. Keep overflow tank filled to level between "COLD" or "HOT" marks. If necessary, add coolant to overflow tank until level appears at "HOT" mark.

2. If overflow tank becomes empty, add coolant to radiator until completely full. Fill overflow tank to "HOT" mark.

3. From inside basket, slowly remove radiator cap (A) and add coolant.

4. Replace cap. Keep radiator pressure cap tight and gasket surface in good condition or loss of pressure and coolant will result.

5. If radiator has been drained or if cooling system has been back flushed, add coolant to radiator. Fill radiator until filler neck is completely full. See Lubrication and Maintenance section for coolant fill specifications.

6. Start and run engine at slow idle until thermostat opens.

7. Open heater valve (A) and operate heater.

8. Fill radiator to top of filler neck.

9. Install and tighten radiator cap.

10. Shut off engine.

11. Fill overflow tank (A) to "HOT" mark.

NOTE: Coolant level in overflow recovery tank will go down as air is removed from cooling system. When coolant is hot, level in recovery tank will be higher than when coolant is cold. Coolant should be added to overflow tank as required, to maintain level between "COLD" and "HOT" marks.
