Gang Assembly

IMPORTANT: Before assembly, clean spools and center of disk blades to remove all dirt, grit, rust or paint. There must be metal-to-metal contact between spools and disk blades for correct gang tightness.

1. Assemble disk blades and spools so curved surfaces indicated by bold arrows match.

NOTE: Some disk blades use a "square/cloverleaf" center hole to mount blades on different sizes of gang bolts.

2. Rotate disk blades so they seat on gang bolt. Ensure outer edge of gang bolt (A) is in contact with inside edge of disk blade (B).

IMPORTANT: Grease fitting must be toward small spool (B) and toward rear of disk for maximum protection from trash.

3. Assemble bearing by inserting sleeve (A) through small cast spool (B), flange with grease fitting (C), bearing, gasket (D), flange (E) and large cast spool (F).

4. Install bearing assembly with small cast spool (B) against convex edge of blade.

5. After all disk blades are installed, on most disks, install special washers and spacers in order removed. See Disassembly of Disk Gangs. Oil threads and install gang nut.

causym CAUTION: Disk gangs are heavy and sharp and can fall or roll causing serious injury or death to you or others. Lock gang so it will not roll when force is applied. Block disk blades, and after handle is installed, brace handle against ground. Wear gloves and use other safety equipment to avoid injury.

7. Attach a 1.8 m (6 ft) pipe (A) to hex offset wrench (B) and place wrench on hex nut (C).

NOTE: For more consistent tightening, oil threads on bolt before tightening.

8. Tighten nut next to nut spacer casting to specification listed below by applying specified force at end of wrench handle (A).

NOTE: Illustration shows preliminary tightening; not final tightening force at end of handle.

9. Tighten jam nut to specification listed below by applying specified force at end of wrench handle.
