Connecting Starter Cables and Ground Straps
Batteries must have the same terminal locations.
CAUTION:
Batteries contain an explosive gas and sulfuric acid. Improper cable connections can result in an explosion and release of the sulfuric acid which can cause serious burns and blindness to you or others. Wear protective clothing and goggles when servicing batteries. Follow instructions below carefully. BATTERIES ARE NEGATIVE GROUNDED ONLY.
Always remove ground cable (-) first and connect it last. Connect starter cables to positive (+) terminals of battery. Always connect battery ground cables to negative (-) terminals of battery. Reversed polarity in battery or alternator connections WILL result in permanent damage to electrical system.
Before connecting batteries:
1.
Loosen cap screws (A).
2.
Pivot battery forward.
3.
Turn off all electrical switches and accessories.
4.
Clean all battery posts and cable terminals.
5.
Connect starter cables to positive (+) battery terminals.
6.
Connect negative (-) battery ground cables.
7.
Push battery back into place.
8.
Tighten cap screws.
