6. Pack doffer bearing housing half-full of John Deere Moly High-Temperature (EP) Grease, or equivalent. See GREASE in LUBRICATION AND MAINTENANCE section.

7. Position bearing housing so grease fitting is to the rear of the unit.

8. Slide housing through bottom of cabinet onto doffer column and attach with flange cap screws and nuts (A). Tighten to specifications.

9. Adjust doffer column height before operating picking unit. See ADJUSTING DOFFER COLUMN HEIGHT in this section.

The doffer column height is correct when:

  • Doffer pads are parallel to top of spindles when spindles are fully under pads.
  • Spindles lightly touch (zero clearance) doffer pads as they enter the doffer assembly and clear when leaving.

If doffer column is not correctly adjusted, the following occurs:

  • If doffers are set too high, spindles will not clean properly.
  • If doffers are set too low, excessive wear of doffer pads, premature spindle bushing and barb wear, and possible bending of the cam followers and picker bar will occur.

10. Reinstall and/or tighten grease fitting. Lubricate bearing housing using John Deere Moly High Temperature (EP) Grease or equivalent.
