Setting Feed Shaft Speed and Drive Number

NOTE: Drive ranges and drive numbers in charts are based on machines with gears in ends of box set to standard speed.

Feed shaft speed is determined by drive sprocket and graduated drive sprocket combinations. There are three different speed ranges with six graduated settings between each range for a total of 18 different speeds available for each side of the feed wheel.

The three speed ranges (STANDARD-SPEED, DOUBLE-SPEED and HALF-SPEED) are determined by the 12-tooth sprocket (A), 17-tooth sprocket (B) and half-speed attachment 34-tooth sprocket (E) combinations.

NOTE: Drive sprockets are factory assembled in the STANDARD-SPEED RANGE position.

Place 12-tooth sprocket (A) on countershaft (D) and 17-tooth sprocket (B) on drive shaft (C) for STANDARD-SPEED RANGE.

For DOUBLE-SPEED RANGE 17-tooth and 12-tooth sprockets can easily be switched by pulling both cotter pins.

IMPORTANT: 12-tooth sprocket must be installed on upper shaft when using half-speed range attachment.

NOTE: Standard Speed Range Drive Numbers 1-6 are used on the charts for half-speed attachment. The 34-tooth sprocket will produce feed rates one-half the values on charts.

HALF-SPEED RANGE is set with the half speed drive attachment 34-tooth sprocket (E) on bottom shaft and 12-tooth sprocket on top shaft.

The graduated settings (Drive Numbers 1-6 and Drive Numbers 7-12 on charts) are determined with graduated sprockets (A,B,C,D and E). See FEED SHAFT RANGE AND SETTING NUMBER SPROCKET POSITION FOR DOUBLE-RUN DRILLS in this section to determine sprocket combination for desired setting.

Countershaft (F) sprockets are easily moved by pulling detent lever (H) up. Loosen chain tightener (I) before moving sprockets.
