causym CAUTION: High-pressure fluid remaining in fuel lines can cause serious injury. Only technicians familiar with this type of system should perform repairs. Before disconnecting fuel lines, sensors, or any other components between the high-pressure fuel pump and nozzles on engines with High Pressure Common Rail (HPCR) fuel system, wait a minimum of 15 minutes after engine is stopped.

1. Thoroughly clean exterior of filter elements and filter mounting areas.

causym CAUTION: Fuel in filters may be under high pressure. Open valve (C) on bottom of filter to relieve pressure prior to removing filter.

NOTE: Use a catch pan when draining fuel and also when removing filters from the machine.

2. Drain water and contaminates from fuel filters (A) and (B) into a suitable container by opening drain valve (C) on bottom of filter.

3. Disconnect water in fuel (WIF) sensor connector (D) from primary fuel filter.

IMPORTANT: Always replace both filters at the same time.

NOTE: Additional fuel will drain from filter housings.

4. Remove fuel filters from machine using suitable filter wrench.

5. Remove WIF sensor from old primary filter. Inspect O-ring, replace as necessary, and install in new primary fuel filter. Tighten to specification.

IMPORTANT: Avoid fuel system contamination. Do not pour fuel directly into filter without filler cup (A) installed. Filler cup blocks fuel from entering center port of filter, forcing the fuel to be filtered before entering the injection pump. Injection pump damage could occur if contaminated with dirty fuel.

NOTE: Primary and secondary fuel filter use different size filler cups. Use correct fill cup on filters to ensure fuel is properly filtered during pre-fill.

NOTE: Pour fuel slowly to allow fuel to flow into the element. This will eliminate the need to dump excess fuel once element is full.

6. Using filler cup (A), fill new fuel filter element with fuel and drain excess fuel into suitable container.

7. Remove filler cup.

NOTE: Lube filter seals with diesel fuel before installing filters.

8. Install new secondary fuel filter (B) and primary fuel filter (A) on machine. Tighten 1/2 turn after seal contacts filter housing.

9. Connect sensor (C).

10. Start engine and run 3 to 5 minutes at low idle. If engine does not start or will not keep running, see Fuel System-Bleeding in this section.
