Pushing or Pulling (Towing) Machine

Install Park Brake Release Hand Pump

IMPORTANT: To avoid damage when pushing or pulling machine Park Brake Release Hand Pump Kit JDG1666 must be ordered from John Deere service parts.

Damage to row units can occur from contact to ground. Raise units all the way up before pulling machine.

1. Raise row units and lower safety stops over unit lift cylinder rods.

2. If hydraulic pump and hydrostatic system is still operational, proceed to Pulling Machine (Towing) or Pushing Machine.

3. If the hydraulic pump is NOT operational, disconnect hose coming out of the PB (Park Brake) port on the back side of platform valve.

4. Cap the fitting that is still in the PB port of the platform valve with cap 38H1415.

IMPORTANT: Hydraulic fittings must be tight. Small leakage will allow the captured pressure to decay and eventually allow the brakes to drag, damaging the brakes.

5. Install fitting 38H1278 (use new o-rings) into the hose that was disconnected from the PB port on the back side of the platform valve. Install male diagnostic receptacle, RE60701, on opposite end of fitting 38H1278.

6. Install the 8 foot long hose, provided with the Park Brake Release Hand Pump Kit JDG1666 onto the male diagnostic receptacle previously installed. Route hose to the top of the operator's platform.

7. Connect hose to the hand pump provided in the Park Brake Release Hand Pump Kit JDG 1666, however DO NOT pressurize the hand pump at this time.

8. Shift transmission lever (A) and hydro lever (B) to neutral.

causym CAUTION: The machine is movable once the next step is performed.

IMPORTANT: Pressures above 750 psi have the potential for damaging internal seal in the brake housing.

9. Use the hand pump to pressurize the park brake circuit to a pressure between 250 › 750 psi. Brakes are fully released with applied pressure above 250 psi. Pressures below 250 psi will allow the brakes to start dragging.

10. Proceed to Pulling Machine (Towing) or Pushing Machine.

Pulling Machine (Towing)

causym CAUTION: ALWAYS use a suitable chain. DO NOT exceed the breaking strength. DO NOT mix chain with tow straps or ropes. Energy stored in the towing device could cause serious bodily injury or death to you or others if it should break.

IMPORTANT: If machine is operational, the hydro handle must be stroked forward or back and the machine must be running before park brake is released.

Connect chains to both attaching points (A) at rear of machine. Always pull the picker straight out. NEVER pull on the attaching points at a sideways angle. Use a steady pull on the chains. DO NOT jerk.

After machine has been pulled to destination, release pressure applied to park brake circuit to allow for the park brakes to engage. Remove added hose, fittings, and reinstall the hose to the back side of the platform valve.

Pushing Machine

causym CAUTION: Fuel is highly flammable can cause serious injury or death to you or others if it is accidentally spilled or ignited. DO NOT push against fuel tank because fuel tank can rupture and spill fuel.

IMPORTANT: If machine is operational, the hydro handle must be stroked forward or back and the machine must be running before park brake is released.

Push against main frame (A). If machine is equipped with the tank guard attachment, DO NOT push on rear cross bar (B) of machine.

After machine has been pulled to destination, release pressure applied to park brake circuit to allow for the park brakes to engage. Remove added hose, fittings, and reinstall the hose to the back side of the platform valve.
