Preparing to Operate in Field- John Deere 8000/9000/8020/9020 Series TractorsNOTE: Machine weight, gang angle, blade type, blade sharpness, and operating speed all affect how deep a machine will operate in a particular soil condition. Operate machine over a short test distance (approximately 46 M [50 yards]) and adjust as necessary to obtain maximum working depth and best level results. 1. Rigid Machines -Remove depth control cylinder lock-up from cylinder and store it in field position.Folding Machines -Open hydraulic cylinder transport lock-up valve. Follow safe procedures in Attaching and Detaching section.
2. If equipped with Hydraulic Wing Control option, open wing fold transport lock-up valve. 3. See that area is clear, then push SCV II control switch (B) forward to unfold wings (if equipped) and extend wing cylinder(s) fully. Place SCV II switch (B) in FLOAT position when wings are fully unfolded on ground. (See your tractor Owner's Manual for placing SCV switch in FLOAT.) 4. Use SCV I control switch (A) to raise and lower machine several times. |

CAUTION:
Wings are heavy and can fall causing serious injury or death to you or others. Stay clear of machine when folding or unfolding wings. Never raise or lower wings when moving.

IMPORTANT: To prevent damage to wing fold cylinder, if your machine is equipped with Hydraulic Wing Control Option, do NOT attempt to operate during initial field setting. Set operating depth and leveling with SCV switch in FLOAT position. (See HYDRAULIC WING CONTROL OPERATION in this section for machines equipped with hydraulic wing control option.) 5. Folding Machines -hold lever rearward for a few seconds after machine has fully raised to rephase or synchronize wing depth control cylinders. |

Operate machine over a short test distance at 6.4-9.7 km/h (4-6 mph). Use SCV I switch (A) to raise lift wheels and lower machine until desired machining depth is achieved. Stop tractor and lower gauge wheels until they exert pressure on ground.
Gauge wheels must support frame for level disking results. Pulling depth gauge wheels completely off ground does NOT help achieve maximum disking depth and causes unlevel disking results. Use Single Point Depth Control or TOUCHSET Depth Control to set operating depth. Single Point Depth Control -Place transmission in PARK, set brakes, and turn tractor off. Set single point depth control using crank at front of machine. (See USING SINGLE POINT DEPTH CONTROL in this section.) Touchset Depth Control -Select SCV I button (B) on monitor panel and push lower set button (C). (See ADJUSTING AND OPERATING TOUCHSET DEPTH CONTROL FOR JOHN DEERE 8000/9000/8020/9020 SERIES TRACTORS in this section.) 7. With depth set, operate over a short distance at 6.4-9.7 km/h (4-6 mph). Stop tractor and check field profile at center of machine. Turn leveling crank clockwise to eliminate center valley or counterclockwise to eliminate center ridge, or adjust front-to-rear leveling using hydraulic motor (if equipped). | 8. With another person observing machine from rear, operate over a short test distance at 6.4-9.7 km/h (4-6 mph) to see if wing frames are level to main frame. Adjust as necessary, eyebolt on each wing depth lift cylinder until gang tubes are level side-to-side across width of machine. Confirm depth settings:
Single Point Depth Control -Pull SCV I control switch (A) rearward to raise machine; and then push forward to lower machine and confirm depth setting. Touchset Depth Control -SCV I switch needs to be moved to detent position to position machine at preset limits. Upper (B) and lower (C) set buttons on touch control panel are used to set depth and upper limit. Use SCV I switch (A) to raise and lower machine with both Single Point Depth Control or TOUCHSET Depth Control.
