Bleeding Cylinders

causym CAUTION: Escaping fluid under pressure can penetrate skin causing serious injury to you or others. Avoid hazard by relieving pressure before disconnecting hydraulic or other lines. Tighten all connections before applying pressure. Search for leaks with a piece of cardboard. Protect hands and body from high pressure fluids.

If an accident occurs, see a doctor immediately. Any fluid injected in skin must be surgically removed within a few hours or gangrene can result. Doctors unfamiliar with this type of injury may call Deere & Company Medical Department in Moline, Illinois, or other knowledgeable medical source.

1. Connect base end of both wing fold hydraulic cylinders, keeping rod ends disconnected.

causym CAUTION: Prevent personal injury or death to you or others caused by unexpected dropping of wing. Stay out of wing path area. Be sure to follow correct procedures to bleed air out of hydraulic system.

2. Support wing fold cylinders on wooden blocks, so cylinder rods can fully extend and retract without interference.

3. For machines equipped with hydraulic wing control, turn black knob fully counterclockwise (out).

4. For machines with and without hydraulic wing control, slowly extend and retract wing fold cylinders completely at least two times, maintaining hydraulic pressure at full extension for at least 30 seconds. Then extend cylinders one more time, maintaining pressure at full extension for a minute. This allows all air to escape from cylinders.

IMPORTANT: If cylinders do not respond correctly, check hose connections to valve before connecting cylinder rod ends to wing frames to avoid damage to machine.

5. For machines equipped with hydraulic wing control, lock tractor control lever in pressure position with cylinders extended. Turn knob fully clockwise (in); cylinder should retract fully. Turn knob fully counterclockwise (out); cylinder should extend fully.

6. Connect wing fold cylinders to wing frames and tighten hardware to specification.

7. Slowly raise and lower wings two times. If action indicates air is still in cylinders, raise and lower
wings until action is smooth and air is not in cylinders.
