Gang Assembly-All Models

IMPORTANT: Before assembly, wire brush spools and center of blades to remove all dirt, grit, rust or paint. There must be metal-to-metal contact between spools and blades for correct gang tightness.

1. Assemble blades and spools so curved surfaces indicated by bold arrows match.

NOTE: Some blades use a "square/cloverleaf" center hole (B) to attach blades on different sizes of gang bolts.

2. Rotate blades so they seat on gang bolt. Ensure outer edge of gang bolt (A) is in contact with inside edge (B) of blade center hole.

IMPORTANT: Grease fitting must be toward small spool (B) and toward rear of machine for maximum protection from trash.

3. Assemble bearing by inserting sleeve (A) through small cast spool (B), flange with grease fitting (C), bearing, gasket (D), flange (E) and large cast spool (F).

4. Install bearing assembly with small cast spool against convex edge of blade.

5. After all blades are installed, on most machines, install special washers and spacers in order removed. (See DISASSEMBLING GANGS in this section.) Oil threads and install gang nut.

causym CAUTION: Gangs are heavy and sharp and can fall or roll causing serious injury or death to you or others. Lock gang so it will not roll when force is applied. Block blades and after handle is installed, brace handle against floor or ground. Wear gloves and other safety equipment to avoid injury.

6. Place square offset wrench (A) on nut spacer casting (B) and attach 1.2 m (4 ft) pipe (C).

7. Attach a 1.8 m (6 ft) pipe (A) to hex offset wrench (B) and place wrench on hex nut (C).

NOTE: For more consistent torque, oil threads on bolt before tightening.

8. Tighten nut next to nut spacer casting to following torque by applying specified force at end of wrench handle.

NOTE: Illustration shows preliminary tightening; not final tightening force at end of handle.

9. Tighten jam nut to following torque by applying specified force at end of wrench handle.
