Checking Disk Blades-Aluminum Boot

causym CAUTION: The blades are sharp. To avoid injury, DO NOT hold blades with bare hands. Use locking pliers to hold the blades when tightening and loosening.

The blades must turn freely. With inside scrapers disengaged, the blades should touch at (A). With blades rotating, point (A) should have a maximum gap of 3.2 mm (1/8 in.).

Most new openers need two or three shims (B) on each disk bolt (C) while worn blades may require less. See REPLACE AND ADJUST DOUBLE-DISK BLADES ON ALUMINUM BOOTS in Service section.
