Preparing Drill for Storage

causym CAUTION: Be careful when using diesel fuel so that is does not ignite or serious injury or death to you or others can result. Use only in well ventilated areas away from any sparks and flames.

IMPORTANT: Do not allow diesel fuel (or any other petroleum product) to come in contact with the rubber tubes as it will cause deterioration.

1. Locate a flat level surface to store machine, then follow safe detaching procedures outlined in the Attaching and Detaching section.

2. Store in transport position with lift cylinder clevis in position.

3. If setting machine on ground, place a wood board under openers so that openers do not penetrate the ground. Lower openers and remove all pressure from hydraulic system.

4. If using stored lock-up straps (A), raise opener and install lock-up straps. Remove all pressure from hydraulic system.

5. Open the feed cups to their largest or wide open setting.

6. Wash the machine with a high pressure washer; move the shifter back and forth while washing.

7. Paint all bare metal and rust spots. Remove rubber tubes.

8. Spray all moving parts with diesel fuel or lubricating oil. Move shifter (A) back and forth while spraying. Spray EACH FEED CUP, inside and outside. Work the individual cup levers back and forth while spraying. Pull the machine around, with feed shafts engaged. The cost of fuel or oil is insignificant when the alternative is considered.

9. For machines that have used fertilizer and/or treated seed-both HIGHLY CORROSIVE materials-coat the entire box, inside and outside, with diesel fuel. Do not allow fuel to contact rubber seed tubes.

10. Lubricate the machine. See Lubrication and Maintenance.

11. Remove chains and clean with diesel fuel. Apply oil before storing in box.

12. Coat disks or sweeps on track tillage attachment with oil or grease; then lower onto a board for storage.

13. Store rubber tubes in box. If box has been sprayed with diesel fuel, store tubes in an alternate location. Keep rubber tubes away from sunlight and chemical contact.

14. For row markers, if machine is stored with cylinder rod end extended apply grease to exposed area of rod.
