Annual Maintenance
1.
To check belt adjustment, remove side inspection door (A) on both machine sides. If end of tension indicator (F) is above or below washer (G) on adjustment gauge (C), adjustment is necessary. Open lower plant shield (B) to obtain access to both fan adjusters.
2.
To adjust cotton fan belts, loosen jam nut (D).
3.
Tighten or loosen adjusting nut (E) until end of tension pointer/indicator is within the THICKNESS of the washer.
4.
Tighten jam nut (D).

5.
Disassemble fuel tank vent (A), clean screen and reassemble.

6.
Clean all battery connections (A). (See SERVICING BATTERIES in Batteries section for proper procedures.)

7.
Check coolant condition with hydrometer. Add coolant conditioner as necessary. (See SUPPLEMENTAL COOLANT ADDITIVES in Fuels, Lubricants, and Coolants section.)

8.

CAUTION:
Row units are heavy and if they fall, serious injury or death to you or others can result. Place safety stops over unit lift cylinder rods when working under units.
10.
Mark doffer bearing housing flange (A) and adjusting plate (B) so bearing housing can be installed in the same position. Remove three cap screws from bearing housing flange. DO NOT loosen adjusting plate (B) (outer) cap screws, or doffer will require realignment.
Remove bearing housing. Remove grease fitting from bearing housing. Clean out grease and refill. (See GREASE in Fuels, Lubricants, and Coolants section.)
Replace bearing housing in same position as before, with grease fitting hole toward rear of machine. Replace grease fitting.

11.
Remove plastic plugs (A) on top of bearing housing. Lubricate unit idler bearing fittings (2 each unit), with 2-3 shots from grease gun. Install plugs.

12.
Clean around breather (A) located on top of the hydraulic/hydrostatic reservoir.

13.
Tighten module builder pivot attaching cap screws and main frame extension cap screws on both sides of machine to specification.

Drain and Refill Row Unit Gear Cases
CAUTION:
Row units are heavy and if they fall, serious injury or death to you or others can result. Lower units completely to the ground or place safety stops over unit lift cylinder rods before working near units.
1.
Remove shield (A) from right side of row unit.

2.
Insert oil drain cup (A) capable of holding 591 ml (20 oz.) of oil underneath gear case output shaft.
NOTE:
Plug (B) is 4.5 mm hex socket head screw.
3.
Remove plugs (B and C). Drain oil.
4.
After oil is drained, reinstall plug (B) and remove oil drain cup. Wipe up any spilled oil.
5.
Install shield on right side of row-unit.

6.
Verify sight glass (B) is level and fill gear case with John Deere Hy-Gard
JDM J2OC oil until level with middle of sight glass.
NOTE:
Allow lubricant to flow into lower cavity of gear case, then add lubricant as necessary to obtain proper level.
7.
Install plug (A).

Drain and Refill Row Unit Drive Gear Cases
1.
Remove fill plug (A).
2.
Remove drain plug (B) and drain gear case. Clean debris from magnetic tip of drain plug and reinstall.
NOTE:
Row unit gear cases are shipped from the factory filled with HY-GARD
JDM J2OC oil. Use only HY-GARD oil when adding to, or re-filling row unit gear cases.
If row unit drive gear case is separated from motor or unit gear case, clean splines and liberally re-apply SD Polyurea grease.
3.
Add oil until it reaches bottom of plug hole (A).
4.
Install fill plug (A).
Check All Belts For Proper Tension And Alignment
Check all belts for stretch and alignment. Adjust tension as necessary.

Lubricate Module Builder Frame Bearings
IMPORTANT:
Module Builder should be in lowered transport position before preforming lubrication procedures.
1.
Lubricate module builder frame bearings (A), 11 on each side.

2.
Lubricate module builder gate link bushing pivots (A), two on each side.
Inspect Seat Belts
Inspect seat belts (A) and mounting hardware on your machine at least once a year. If either of the seat belt systems show signs of cuts, fraying, extreme or unusual wear, discoloration, abrasion, or damage to the buckle or retractor, the entire seat belt should be replaced immediately. For your safety, replace the belt system only with replacement parts approved for your machine. (See your John Deere dealer.)
