Troubleshooting Machine

Symptom Problem Solution

Mud builds up on press wheels and wheels stop turning.

Too much down pressure.

Remove spring pressure from press wheels.

Field too wet.

Wait until field dries.

Poor opener penetration.

Hard ground conditions.

Add Quik-Tatch ™ weights. See INSTALLING FRAME QUIK-TATCH WEIGHTS in Preparing Machine section. Increase down pressure. See ADJUSTING ACTIVE HYDRAULIC DOWN-PRESSURE in Operating Machine section.

Excessive down-pressure.

Decrease down-pressure if rear wheels lift off ground during operation.

Residue laying in bunches.

Spread residue evenly across field.

Excessive residue.

Adjust gauge wheel for deeper operation and/or increase down pressure. (May need to add weights.)

Dull disk openers.

Sharpen or replace openers.

Disk opener worn too small.

Replace disk openers.

Furrow not closing.

Field is wet or hard ground conditions.

Adjust closing wheel spring pressure. See ADJUSTING PRESS WHEEL AND CLOSING WHEEL DOWN FORCE in Preparing Machine section.

Soil freezes to blade.

Stop in field.

With openers down raise openers when stopping to prevent anhydrous ammonia from contacting and freezing soil to blade.

Residue buildup in front of openers.

Residue wedged between boot and disk opener.

Verify boot spring s are compressed by rotating cams.

Symptom Problem Solution

Uneven opener penetration.

Inconsistent opener adjustments.

Adjust openers alike.

Uneven depth.

Residue laying in bunches.

Spread residue evenly across field.

Inadequate down pressure.

Increase down pressure to keep gauge wheel in contact with the ground and/or install weights.

Excessive down pressure.

Decrease down pressure if rear wheels lift off ground during operation, or install weights.

Boots worn.

Install boot in lower mounting hole for additional life and/or replace boot.

Plugged scrapers and product tubes.

Backing or turning with openers in ground.

Raise openers before backing or turning.

Scrapers worn out.

Replace scrapers.

Closing wheels leave a trench.

Excessive down-force on closing wheels.

Reduce spring pressure on closing wheels. See ADJUSTING CLOSING WHEEL DOWN-FORCE in Preparing Machine Section.
