Gang Assembly

IMPORTANT: Before assembly, wire brush spools and center of disk blades to remove all dirt, grit, rust or paint. There must be metal-to-metal contact between spools and disk blades for correct gang tightness.

1. Assemble disk blades and spools so curved surfaces indicated by bold arrows match.

NOTE: Some disk blades use a "square/cloverleaf" center hole (B) to mount blades on different sizes of gang bolts.

2. Rotate disk blades so they seat on gang bolt. Ensure outer edge of gang bolt (A) is in contact with inside edge (B) of disk blade center hole.

IMPORTANT: Align bearing lubrication port (A) with grease fitting (B) when assembling to prevent bearing failure.

IMPORTANT: Grease fitting must be toward small spool (D) and toward rear of machine for maximum protection from trash.

3. Assemble bearing by inserting sleeve (C) through small cast spool (D), flange with grease fitting (E), bearing, gasket (F), flange (G) and large cast spool (H).

4. Tighten carriage bolt nuts (I) to specification.

Specification

Carriage Bolt Nuts (I) -Torque 81 N·m (60 lb-ft)

5. Install bearing assembly with small cast spool against convex edge of blade.

6. After all disk blades are installed, install special washers and spacers in order removed. (See Disassembling Disk Gangs in this section.) Oil threads and install gang nut.

7. Tighten gang bolt. (See TIGHTENING GANG BOLT in this section.)
