Troubleshooting PERMA-LOC Sweeps

Symptom Problem Solution

Sweep not running level side-to-side.

Adapter not straight with shank.

Loosen and straighten adapter. Tighten hardware to specification.

Adapter hardware loosening.

Hardware not tight.

Loosen and straighten adapter. Tighten hardware to specification.

Cannot attach sweep by hand.

Debris packed on adapter.

Remove debris from adapter.

Spring will not snap up in sweep notches.

Spring permanently bent.

(See REPLACING WORN SWEEP for spring height specification.) Replace spring if needed.

Spring notches filled with debris.

Remove sweep. Remove debris from sweep notches.

Cannot depress spring enough to remove sweep.

Debris packed below spring.

Remove debris from under spring.

Spring being pushed to side and contacts double tine of tool.

Reposition tool for proper engagement of spring.

Ridging behind machine.

PERMA-LOC runs 19 mm (3/4 in.) deeper than regular sweeps due to adapters. This may cause ridging if operator doesn't realize difference.

Shallow machine up 19 mm (3/4 in.).

Sweeps come off in field.

Rocky or extreme hard ground conditions.

Hit sweep with hammer on point until sweep goes over first notch. Lower sweeps into ground to working depth.
