Check Front Axle Toe-In—Annually


Wide Machine

  1. NOTE: Remove front wheel shields, if equipped.

    Rephase front steering by turning wheels to left steering stop. Turn the steering wheel three additional revolutions to left. Repeat turning wheels to right.


  2. Drive straight ahead 6.1 m (20 ft).

  3. Mark tire center (A) at front and rear of rim, on centerline (B).

  4. IMPORTANT: Measurements taken at wheel rim, not at outside of tire.

    Measure from mark-to-mark diagonally to verify wheels are straight ahead. If measurements are not equal within 6.3 mm (0.25 in.), turn steering wheel slightly to adjust tires and remeasure.

  5. Measure from mark-to-mark on rear of each rim. Record measurement for rear spacing dimension (C).

  6. Measure from mark-to-mark on front of each rim. Record measurement for front spacing dimension (D).

  7. Subtract front spacing from rear spacing to obtain toe-in dimension. Dimension (D) should be 10—25 mm (0.38—1 in.) less than dimension (C).

    If dimensions are not within specified range, (see Adjust Front Axle Toe-In in this section).


Narrow Machine

    E - Rod Length

    Rephase front steering by turning wheels to left steering stop. Turn the steering wheel three additional revolutions to left. Repeat turning wheels to right.


  2. Drive straight ahead 6.1 m (20 ft).

  3. Straight wheel placement can be verified by measuring the rod length (E) on both sides of the steering cylinder. If measurements are not equal, turn steering wheel slightly to adjust tires and remeasure.

  4. Mark tire center (A) at front and rear of rim, on centerline (B).

  5. Measure from mark-to-mark on rear of each rim. Record measurement for rear spacing dimension (C).

  6. Measure from mark-to-mark on front of each rim. Record measurement for front spacing dimension (D).

  7. Subtract front spacing from rear spacing to obtain toe-in dimension. Dimension (D) should be 10—25 mm (0.38—1 in.) less than dimension (C).
