Transport Lockup Valve Open
Failure to close transport lockup valve could cause machine
to unfold unexpectedly during transport causing serious injury or
death to you or others.
Machine weight, gang angle, blade type, blade sharpness,
and operating speed all affect how deep a machine operates in a particular
soil condition. Operate machine over a short test distance (approximately
46 m [50 yards]) and adjust as necessary to obtain maximum working
depth and best level results.
Attach machine to tractor. (See Attaching and Detaching section
in this manual.)
-
Open transport lockup valve (A).

John Deere R/RT Series Tractors
A - SCV II Multi-Function Lever
B - SCV I Multi-Function Lever
Wings are heavy and can fall causing serious injury or death
to you or others. Stay clear of machine when folding or unfolding
wings. Never raise or lower wings when moving.
Machine must be fully raised before folding or unfolding.
Verify that area is clear, then push SCV II multi-function lever
(A) forward to unfold wings and extend wing cylinders fully. Place
SCV II multi-function lever in FLOAT position when wings are fully
unfolded on ground. (See your tractor Owner's Manual for placing SCV
multi-function lever in FLOAT.)
-
Never operate SCV I in CONTINUOUS. Wheel retraction
valve can cause machine to unfold unexpectedly causing serious injury
or death to you or others.
Raise and lower machine several times using SCV I multi-function
lever (B).
-
Hold lever rearward for a few seconds after machine has fully
raised to rephase or synchronize wing depth control cylinders.

John Deere R/RT Series Tractors
A - SCV I Multi-Function Lever
Operate machine over a short test distance between 6.4—11.3
km/h (4—7 mph) for disk machines and between 11.3—16.1 km/h (7—10
mph) for vertical tillage machines. Use SCV I multi-function lever
(A) to raise lift wheels and lower machine until desired operating
depth is achieved.
Gauge wheels must support frame for level disking results.
Pulling depth gauge wheels completely off ground does NOT help
achieve maximum disking depth and causes unlevel disking results.
Use Single Point Depth Control to set operating depth.
Place transmission in PARK, set brakes, and turn tractor off.
Set single point depth control using crank at front of machine. (See
USE SINGLE POINT DEPTH CONTROL in this section.)
-
With depth set, operate over a short distance between 6.4—11.3
km/h (4—7 mph) for disk machines and between 11.3—16.1 km/h (7—10
mph) for vertical tillage machines. Stop tractor and check field profile
at center of machine. Eliminate center valley or center ridge by adjusting
front-to-rear leveling using tractor SCV III. (See LEVEL MACHINE FRONT-TO-REAR
IN FIELD in Operating Machine section.)
-
With another person observing machine from rear, operate over
a short test distance between 6.4—11.3 km/h (4—7 mph) for disk machines
and between 11.3—16.1 km/h (7—10 mph) for vertical tillage machines
to see if wing frames are level to main frame. Adjust as necessary,
eye bolt on each wing depth lift cylinder until gang tubes are level
side-to-side across width of machine. (See LEVEL WINGS TO MAIN FRAME
IN FIELD in this section.)
-
Confirm depth settings:
Pull SCV I multi-function lever rearward to raise machine. Then,
push forward to lower machine and confirm depth setting.
