Removing Cylinders—Folding and Drawn

CAUTION:

X9811
X9811-UN-23AUG88

Escaping fluid under pressure can penetrate skin causing serious injury. Avoid hazard by relieving pressure before disconnecting hydraulic or other lines. Tighten all connections before applying pressure. Search for leaks with a piece of cardboard. Protect hands and body from high pressure fluids.

If an accident occurs, see a doctor immediately. Any fluid injected in skin must be surgically removed within a few hours or gangrene may result. Doctors unfamiliar with this type of injury should reference a knowledgeable medical source. Such information is available from Deere & Company Medical Department in Moline, Illinois, U.S.A.

  1. CAUTION: If wing-fold cylinders must be removed with wings in folded position, chain wings together to prevent wings from falling, causing serious injury or death to you or others. Before reinstalling cylinders, cylinders must be fully charged with oil. (See INSTALLING AND BLEEDING CYLINDERS.)

    C - Pin

Wing-fold Cylinders (A)— Remove cylinders as follows:

    1. Fully lower machine and wings.

    2. Relieve hydraulic pressure by positioning SCV II lever in FLOAT position.

    3. CAUTION: Engage tractor parking brake, place transmission in PARK, shut off engine, and remove key to prevent serious injury or death to you or others before disconnecting hoses.

Disconnect hoses from tractor and cylinder ports. Cover tractor outlets, cylinder ports, and hose ends.

    4. Remove pins (B, C) on cylinders, then remove cylinders.

Depth Control Cylinders (A)— Remove cylinders as follows:

Cylinder Rod End Attached to Wheel Arm

      A - Wheel Arm

      B - Spring Pin

      C - Rod Pin

      D - Hole

Fully raise machine for easier access to spring pins (B).

    2. Remove spring pins from rod pins (C) away from holes (D).

    3. NOTE: Wheel arms MUST be fully retracted to remove rod pins.

Lower machine to ground, then fully retract wheel arms (A). Support wheel arms with jacks or stands to remove weight from wheels.

    4. Fully lower wings, if equipped, for increased work area.

    5. Place SCV I lever in FLOAT position.

    6. CAUTION: Engage tractor parking brake, place transmission in PARK, shut off engine, and remove key to prevent serious injury or death to you or others before disconnecting hoses.

Placing SCV I lever in FLOAT position does NOT relieve hydraulic pressures in all hoses. Nuts on hoses MUST be loosened slowly to relieve hydraulic pressures.

Disconnect hoses from tractor and cylinder ports. Cover tractor outlets, cylinder ports, and hose ends.

    7. Remove rod pins through holes (D).

    8. Remove base end pins, then remove cylinders.

  3. Check and repair cylinders, if necessary. (See your John Deere dealer.)
