Installing and Bleeding Cylinders

CAUTION:

X9811-UN-23AUG88

Escaping fluid under pressure can penetrate skin causing serious injury. Avoid hazard by relieving pressure before disconnecting hydraulic or other lines. Tighten all connections before applying pressure. Search for leaks with a piece of cardboard. Protect hands and body from high pressure fluids.

If an accident occurs, see a doctor immediately. Any fluid injected in skin must be surgically removed within a few hours or gangrene may result. Doctors unfamiliar with this type of injury should reference a knowledgeable medical source. Such information is available from Deere & Company Medical Department in Moline, Illinois, U.S.A.

Cleanliness

When disconnecting hydraulic system for service, protect hose ends, tubing, and components from contamination with clean, lint-free towels or clean plastic bags.

Before installing cylinders, flush inside of cylinders with clean diesel fuel or petroleum solvent for ten seconds minimum. Do not use water, water soluble cleaners, or compressed air.

  1. IMPORTANT: Depth control cylinders must be TEMPORARILY attached EXACTLY as shown to prevent rod/wheel arm interferences during bleeding.

    A - Wing-fold Cylinder

    B - Depth Control Cylinder

    C - Block

Wing-fold (A) and Depth Control (B) Cylinders—Attach cylinder base ends to cylinder anchors, but leave rod ends detached. Support cylinders on blocks (C), so rods can extend and retract without interference.

  2. Attach all hoses in hydraulic circuits.

  3. Attach hoses to tractor. Fully extend and retract cylinders at least two times, maintaining hydraulic pressure at full extension for at least 30 seconds. Then extend cylinders one more time, maintaining pressure at full extension for one minute. This allows all air to escape from cylinders.

CAUTION: To prevent serious injury or death to you or others:

    • Bleed cylinders as described. Otherwise, wings and machine can drop unexpectedly.
    • Stand clear of machine when folding or unfolding wings and raising or lowering machine. Mechanical or hydraulic failure can allow wings or machine to fall rapidly.

    A - Depth Control Cylinder

    B - Cylinder Anchor

    C - Wheel Arm

Depth Control Cylinders (A)—Attach cylinders as follows:

    1. Unpin cylinders from bleeding positions.

    2. Attach base ends of cylinders to cylinder anchors (B) using existing drilled pins and spring pins.

    3. Attach rod ends of cylinders to wheel arms (C) using existing drilled pins. Fully raise machine, then attach existing spring pins to drilled pins.
