    C - Cap Screws

    D - Inner Cabinet Seal

Clean top of doffer column and mounting flange to remove any debris from mating surfaces.

  2. Insert doffer column into row unit.

  3. If necessary, turn adjusting screw (A) clockwise until mounting flange meets top of doffer column. Leave nut (B) loose.

  4. Install flange head cap screws (C) and sequentially tighten to specification.

    A - Nuts

Pack doffer bearing housing half-full of John Deere Moly High-Temperature (EP) Grease, or equivalent. (See GREASE in Fuels, Lubricants, and Coolants section.)

  7. Position bearing housing so grease fitting is to the rear of the unit.

  8. Slide housing through bottom of cabinet onto doffer column and attach with flange head cap screws and nuts (A). Tighten to specifications.

    Lower Bearing Housing HardwareTorque50 N˙m (37 lb.-ft.)

  9. Adjust doffer column height before operating row unit. (See ADJUSTING DOFFER COLUMN HEIGHT in this section.)

    1. Doffer column height is correct when:

      • Doffer pads are parallel to top of spindles when spindles are fully under pads.
      • Spindles lightly touch (zero clearance) doffer pads as they enter the doffer assembly and clear when leaving.

    2. If doffer column is not correctly adjusted, the following occurs:

      • If doffers are set too high, spindles do not clean properly.
      • If doffers are set too low, excessive wear of doffer pads, premature spindle bushing and barb wear, and possible bending of the cam followers and picker bar can occur.

  10. Install and tighten grease fitting. Lubricate bearing housing using John Deere Moly High Temperature (EP) Grease or equivalent. (See GREASE in Fuels, Lubricants, and Coolants section.)
