Starting Engine

IMPORTANT: To avoid damage to engine, precautions must be taken when starting an engine in cold temperatures. (See STARTING ENGINE IN COLD WEATHER and WARMING ENGINE in this section.)

A - Multifunction Control Handle

  1. Position multifunction control handle (A) in neutral.

  2. Place fan switch (B) and row units switch (C) in off position.

  3. Turn off all accessories such as radio, lights, heater/air conditioning fan, and windshield wiper.

  4. Turn key switch (D) to RUN position and wait a few seconds for controllers and display to power up.

  5. Press low engine speed button (E).

  6. CAUTION: Sound horn before starting engine to warn others to stay clear from machine.

    To avoid the possibility of personal injury or death, start engine ONLY from operator seat. Do not start engine by shorting across starter terminals. Machine can start in gear if bypassed.

    Sudden machine movement can result in serious injury or death to bystanders. Verify that park brake is engaged and that no one is standing near machine when engine is started.

    IMPORTANT: To prevent starter damage, do not operate starter for more than 30 seconds at a time. If engine does not start, wait at least 2 minutes before trying again.

    Sound horn and turn key switch to START position.

  7. NOTE: If stop engine warning occurs, diagnostic trouble codes are displayed on armrest display unit (ADU). The display stops normal functions, indicating that a problem exists that requires stopping the machine and correcting the problem immediately. Codes are displayed until the problem is resolved. If problem cannot be resolved, see your John Deere dealer.

    Release key after engine starts and let engine run at slow idle until it reaches normal operating temperature. (See WARMING ENGINE in this section.)
