  1. CAUTION: Explosive release of fluids from pressurized cooling system can cause serious burns to you or others. NEVER remove surge tank cap when coolant or engine is hot. Wait until engine coolant is cool to remove cap.

    Drain and flush cooling system. (See FLUSHING COOLING SYSTEM in Engine and Drive Train section for proper procedure.)


  2. Replace thermostats and check remaining system components for serviceability. Replace, if necessary.

  3. Close drain plug and fill cooling system with proper type and amount of coolant. (See FILLING COOLING SYSTEM in Engine and Drive Train section for procedure. See HEAVY DUTY DIESEL ENGINE COOLANT in Fuels, Lubricants, and Coolants section for proper coolant. See MACHINE SPECIFICATIONS in Specifications section for system refill capacity.)
